A true Australian icon, the HMS Endeavour, also dubbed HM Bark Endeavour, formed part of the British Royal Navy research fleet. Captained by none other than James Cook, the vessel was the first to voyage in discovery of the land we call home, Australia. Furthermore taking the arduous journey across the seas between Australia and New Zealand. Ascents only generated from hand crafted pieces make this maritime compass a must have piece with its brass-Combination of metal outer antique finish. This 65 mm DIA compass is fully functional with top grade magnets. The glass face is easy to read, inner face considers period correct fonts and stone jewelled needle pointing out cardinal directions. Characteristic of the captains and their shipmates that would rely on these tools while sailing the high seas!
Find your own “True North” with one of Vintage World’s authentic, antique-style, compasses. Each of our beautiful display pieces are powerful reminders that our history is the bridge that connects our future destinations with the points from where our journeys begin. Just like Captain James Cook, the famous, 18th century English explorer would have had his eye firmly trained on the North point of his old compass, the home he would ultimately return to, as he sailed south to explore the Pacific on the HM Bark Endeavour.
A Vintage World, nautical themed, Compass is a great gift idea for travellers (of all sorts). It is also a popular gift for corporate send-offs or retirements (the compass obviously being a lasting symbol of being guided into the great unknown). All of our reproduction, beautifully hand-crafted, antique-styled and vintage-finished compasses come carefully presented in their own wooden box or embossed leather pouch. Each one is imminently collectible and shines with a polished brass alloy finish, making the perfect decorative centrepiece & slice of history to finish off any room in your house or office space, or just as a great addition to your collection of quality antique items.
